Birthday Ideas For Someone Not So Sociable?

I’m snooping around for ways to celebrate a friends birthday. I know he wouldn’t like a party or a big group of friends, so it should be fairly quiet, just the two of us.
The ideas -can- be sorta romantic, but we’re not dating or physically intimate so things like rose petals and candles are inappropriate.
Any ideas?
Gift suggestions are also appreciated, but I think I might just bake him a couple things.

I always think lunch is a great idea for the friends of yours whom are not so sociable. It would be nice to take him out for a good meal somewhere and have a chat, just the two of you. Surprisingly for some people that can be a brilliant day out, just a chilled relaxed meal with your friend. (Assure though you don’t take him somewhere too romantic)
You mentioned baking, if you were to make him a little birthday cake with his name on it or something it would be nice, and finally present wise; I have had so many friends whom have thought ‘I know lets buy this’ and I end up with thousands of gift vouchers!
So what I’m saying is the best presents are those that comes from the heart, that have meaning. Totally unique- perhaps even funny, something that will make him smile.

Get some take out from a decent place if he hates leaving the house. Otherwise, just go out to eat somewhere nice. That’s the least I expect besides being showered with gifts. I don’t really like being on the birthday pedestal. but I can never say no to gifts or food and some nice private conversation with close friends. :)

Why don’t you cook him his favorite dinner with a small birthday cake for two! Then watch his favorite movie, or sports team, or t.v. show! He will appreciate that you know what he likes!
